The use of an NFC tag enables you to search for and identify a record or group of records with ease.

The easiest way to do this is with the built-in NFC scanning functionality in the Papertrail mobile app. You can also connect a scanning device to your computer and use the web app.

Step by Step

Step 1: Open the Search Function in the Mobile App

From your account dashboard in the Papertrail mobile app, tap on the magnifying glass πŸ”Ž Search icon in the top right-hand corner of the screen.

Step 2: Activate NFC Scanning

Tap on the 'NFC' button to open the NFC pop-up scanning window.

Step 3: Scan Your NFC Tag

Scan your NFC tag. Ensure you receive a success message, and observe the NFC Tag ID appear in the search input field. Any records associated with that tag should then appear in the results list below.

Step 4: Continue Scanning (Optional)

To continue scanning and add more records to your search list, repeat this process by tapping on one of the scanning type icons (NFC, RFID, & Barcode) located under the search bar.

Each new ID found will be added to the top search bar, and all associated records will appear in a single list. You can alternate between different scanning methods when building your search list.

Step 5: Perform Bulk Actions (Optional)

If you wish to perform actions on the records found, simply tap 'Select All'. The quick actions menu will appear at the bottom of the screen. Alternatively, you can tap on the '3 dot menu' (top left) to view a full range of available bulk actions.

Using an NFC Scanner with the Web App or Mobile Browser (Alternative Method)

If you don't have the Papertrail app handy, you can still use NFC scanning to access record information.

  • With a connected NFC scanner on your computer: Scan the NFC tag directly. The scanner will typically provide a link to a public summary page for that record.

  • With a mobile device: Simply tap your NFC-enabled mobile phone to the NFC tag. Your phone's browser will open and direct you to the public summary page for that record.

Once on the public summary page, you can view the record's details, including its name, current state, and next check date. From this page, you can also click to view the full record within the Papertrail web app.
